Katie & Kimble Blog: Click on the Yellow Stripes!
 Have you noticed the yellow stripes on the sidebars of the Katie & Kimble Blog? You can click on them for little surprises!
For example, a picture of Katie's two-year-old brother, Toby, will pop up when you click one stripe.
Have your speakers on, too! The song that Mr. Russell sings in Katie & Kimble: The Magic Wish will play when you click the correct stripe. It's called "For the Beauty of the Earth." It's a beautiful old hymn, and one of my favorites.
Another stripe will pop up a picture of the author (me) of Katie & Kimble at age 7! And yet another stripe will give you the sound of Twinkle barking!
Keep checking the yellow stripes. I do change the surprises from time to time!

Look on the right sidebar of the Katie & Kimble blog. There's
a big orange box. Click on "Send a Katie & Kimble Greeting
Card." That will take you to another webpage where you can design
your own greeting card.
You can choose from 12 Katie & Kimble pictures, 12 background colors, and 9 songs! That's right—you can add a song to your e-Card! Give it a try!
If someone sends YOU an e-Card, you can come back to the Katie &
Kimble blog to pick it up. You'll receive an email telling you
what your e-Card number is. Then you enter it into the gold box
on the sidebar and click on GO. It's so easy!
If you send a card to someone and they don't receive it, please ask
them to look in their spam folder. It's probably there, but it's
NOT spam!

UPDATE: Teachers & Homeschoolers - Free Katie & Kimble Materials!

teachers and homeschoolers! Free Katie & Kimble
classroom/ homeschool materials are now available to download from the
Katie & Kimble Blog!
[UPDATE: The
classroom
materials I offer in this post are those that I created originally as
examples of what I intended to do. At the request of a Wisconsin school
system who purchased classroom sets of our books, this summer, I have been working on
expanding these materials to cover both Katie & Kimble Book 1 and
Book 2. The new materials, which will be posted no later than August
15,
2008, for Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story and shortly thereafter for
Katie & Kimble: The Magic Wish, will consist of a set of 6 Activity
Packets per book. Each Activity Packet covers two chapters and
contains 7 Activity Pages (reading skills, word skills, comprehension,
apply text to self, writing, etc.) The first page of each Activity Packet is a
Table of Contents/Cover page for the packet. Teachers and homeschoolers can
decide which Activity Pages to use in each packet, and kids can check
off each Activity Page on the Contents page as they complete it (very
motivating, as they can see their progress). The
Contents page/cover sheet also contains pre-reading activities for the
chapters that follow. These Katie & Kimble Activity Packets will be
available to download free of charge.]
As some of you know, I used to be an English teacher (ESL). I also
used to create materials on a regular basis, both for my own classes
and for the language programs that employed me. So, it just follows
naturally that I would wish to create some materials to go along with Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story.
These materials are RL3 (third grade). As my guide, I have used the
requirements from two Iowa school systems for reading skills in their
third grade classrooms.
I have Reading/Writing Activities,
including prompts for writing reports on things related to the Katie
& Kimble story. I've also created topics and prompts to go with my
Childhood Stories that you will find on the right sidebar under the
Katie & Kimble Activity Corner.
A Culminating Activity is included for classes that want to blog with the author.
I have also included seven Worksheets to go with Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story.
These include: Rhyming Words, What's the Order?, What's the Story?,
Contractions Review, Compound Words, Classifying Words, and Base Words.
You can download all the materials free of charge below and make copies
for your own personal use or for classroom use. And don't forget the
free downloadable coloring pages!
I welcome suggestions for additional materials. Please post your

Katie & Kimble: Ask the Author a Question!
 Wouldn't it be fun to read a book and then ask the author a question?
Well, you can do that right here on the Katie & Kimble blog! We
have quite a conversation going on already, thanks to our friend and
reader, Marissa! Just look at the great questions she's asked and
the wonderful comments she has shared.
You don't need to sign in to ask a question and you don't need to give us your email address.
You can ask questions, give your opinions or talk about anything you
want. Just two rules: 1) be polite, and 2) don't give your
last name! First names only, please! Please don't give your
address or phone number, either. Never give that kind of
information online. That's because we want this blog to be safe
for all kids!
